Margaret Ann Hughes met James Donald Mohr at Rodessa High School in 1947. Their first date was on October 22, 1947, at the farm of a classmate, where they had hot dogs. James graduated a year before Margaret and went to college at Northwestern in Natchitoches. James wrote to Margaret every day, and he often hitchhiked back to Bossier, where Margaret lived and worked.
They were married in the home of their pastor, witnessed by Margaret’s brother and sister-in-law. James often laughs about the wedding because he forgot his wallet, and Margaret’s sister-in-law paid the preacher. James eventually graduated from LA Tech in Civil Engineering. He and Margaret settled in Shreveport, specifically Southern Hills, where they raised their three daughters. They were active members of Brookwood Baptist Church.
Over 40 years ago, they moved to Cross Lake. For many years, they have been members of Broadmor Baptist Church. James is now 93, and Margaret is 92.
